Compression stockings

Compression stockings can help relieve aching and swelling legs or the pain and suffering caused by varicose veins.

Medcenter One MedEquip One takes pride in delivering high quality compression stockings and accessories to patients who suffer with varicose veins and those trying to prevent them. We offer a full line of compression/support stockings from four different manufacturers—Juzo, Jobst, and Mediven—at an affordable price.

Compression stockings are specialized socks for your legs that are available for men and women in a variety of styles and colors.

Compression stocking questions and answers

Are the stockings like the stockings my grandmother used to wear?
A: The compression stockings of today are sheer, lightweight and barely distinguishable from regular fashion stockings.

Why are there different compression levels?
A: The compression levels vary based upon the level of care needed to treat symptoms. Levels include 15—20 mmHg, 20—30 mmHg and 30—40 mmHg. The lighter weight treats symptoms including discomfort from spider veins and tired aching legs. The middle weight treats heaviness and fatigue in the legs and low-grade varicose veins. The heavy weight is often used in recovery of sclerotherapy—a procedure used to treat blood vessels or blood vessel malformations—and to treat lymphedema and varicose veins caused by pregnancy.

How do compression stockings work?
A: Compression stockings push the dilated vein walls back into place which helps them circulate the blood throughout your body more efficiently.

How long will these stockings last?
A: The average compression stocking will last up to six months.

Is it okay to machine wash and dry compression garments?
A: It is not recommended to machine wash and dry your compression garments. The machine may damage the garment. Rather, hand wash and air dry them.

Does my health insurance pay for compression stockings?
A: Yes, some health insurance companies will pay for compression stockings greater than 20 mmHg with a qualifying diagnosis. Please consult your insurance for specific coverage questions.

Does Medicare cover compression stockings?
A: No, compression stockings are not a covered service under Medicare B. Medicare will not pay for these items even with a prescription from your doctor.
