Medcenter One celebrates volunteers during National Volunteer Week
BISMARCK, N.D.—Volunteers are a valuable asset and critical resource to Medcenter One. In 2009, more than 500 volunteers served 38,120 hours. To put that in the context of a 40-hour work week, that equals 18 years of one full-time position’s work. If Medcenter One would pay minimum wage for these services, the value would exceed $276,370.
Medcenter One volunteers dedicate themselves to improving the patient experience at the hospitals in a variety of ways, including:
- Greeting and assisting patients and visitors.
- Transporting patients to their room after admission or to and from other hospital departments.
- Serve beverages and snacks to patients, visitors and associates at the Koffee Korner and sell gifts and snacks at the Gift Shoppe.
“Volunteers are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of the healthcare system," said Jane Morrow, volunteer services coordinator. "The organization is delighted to recognize and thank them for all they do."
Medcenter One will celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 18—24, to acknowledge the service and dedication of the volunteers.
