Medcenter One announces leadership changes
BISMARCK, N.D.—Medcenter One recently announced several changes within its leadership team. Vice presidents Scott Boehm and Dr. Jan Kamphuis were named executive vice presidents of clinic operations and hospital operations, respectively. Julie Schwab was named corporate compliance officer, Stephanie Murdock was named clinic administrator and Dr. Kent Martin was named clinic medical director.
Boehm has served as Medcenter One’s vice president of human resources since 1994. In addition to directing HR operations for the organization’s 2,700 employees, Boehm oversees several Medcenter One departments including construction, environmental services and employee health. He also serves on the board for the Bismarck Cancer Center. He joined Medcenter one in 1981 and advanced to management four years later. Boehm has a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Mary, a master’s degree in social work from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from St. Joseph’s in Standish, Maine.
As executive vice president of Medcenter One clinics, Boehm will oversee operations for Medcenter One’s 17 clinics in Bismarck, Mandan, Jamestown and Dickinson in addition to his current responsibilities.
Dr. Kamphuis has served as Medcenter One’s vice president of patient care services since 1989. She is responsible for oversight of several services including radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, nutritional services and emergency services. She also serves as the organization’s chief nursing officer and is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Mary.
Dr. Kamphuis, who joined Medcenter One in 1980 as a nurse in the Emergency and Trauma Center, was named manager of that department in 1982 and remained there until being promoted to vice president in 1989. Under her leadership, Medcenter One was the first health system in North Dakota to achieve Magnet status, an award that recognizes nursing excellence.
As executive vice president of hospital operations, Dr. Kamphuis will oversee all hospital services and both hospital and clinic nursing operations.
Dr. Kamphuis completed an associate’s nursing degree at North Iowa Community College in Mason City, Iowa; a nursing bachelor’s degree at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks; a nursing master’s degree at the University of Mary in Bismarck and a Ph.D. in higher education in teaching and learning through UND.
Schwab joined Medcenter One in 1999 as coordinator for the Diabetes Care Center. She worked as a case manager, compliance officer and customer service trainer before being promoted to director of nursing and clinical operations and then clinic administrator.
Schwab completed bachelor’s degrees in nursing and addiction counseling at Minot State University and completed master’s degrees in nursing and business administration at the University of Mary.
Her new role as Medcenter One’s full-time corporate compliance officer reflects another step in the organization’s continued strategy to ensure quality care and safety for its patients.
Murdock, who joined Medcenter One in 2002 as a nurse in the intensive care unit, worked as a case manager before being named executive director of Medcenter One’s Occupational Health Clinics. In 2009, she became administrator of Medcenter One’s Occupational Health Clinics and Walk-in Clinics.
Murdock completed her nursing degree at the Medcenter One College of Nursing and completed master’s degrees in nursing and business administration at the University of Phoenix.
Dr. Martin joined Medcenter One in 1995 as an internal medicine physician and director of infection control. His leadership positions at Medcenter One include serving as chief of staff, medical director and as a member of Medcenter One’s board of directors. He is a member of the N.D. State Board of Medical Examiners and has completed research in a variety of infectious diseases. Most recently, Dr. Martin was recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a prestigious honor recognizing his research and contributions to the practice of medicine.
Before joining Medcenter One, Dr. Martin was in private practice in Louisiana and Texas and did medical mission work for two years in Tanzania and a year in Ethiopia.
Dr. Martin served in the Navy before completing his medical degree at the University of Washington in Seattle and a master’s degree in public health at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed a medical internship and residency at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital Baton Rouge, La.
