Urology

The urologists at Medcenter One provide a skilled and caring approach when treating diseases and disorders of the urinary tract in men, women and children. They also treat disorders affecting male reproductive organs.

To assist in the most accurate diagnosis of incontinence problems, our progressive urology department features state-of-the-art Laborie Urodynamic evaluation, including video urodynamics. In addition, we now offer Brachytherapy, or radioactive seed implantation for prostate cancer. This therapy offers a more progressive and less invasive method of treatment. Medcenter One is the only health care system in the region that offers this technique.

In response to patient demand, Medcenter One has a new non surgical treatment unit for stones in the kidney and ureter—extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). This unit makes treatment available to patients on a daily basis and is the only permanent fixed unit in North Dakota. As a result, complications, hospital stays, recovery period and costs are reduced with ESWL.

Pediatric urology

Pediatric urology is a subspecialty of urology dealing with urological and genital problems in children and conditions persisting from childhood to adulthood. Pediatric urology at Medcenter One uses a multidisciplinary approach including pediatricians, pediatric urologists and the pediatric department.

Dr. Koleilat works in pediatric urology. He cares about his patients and develops a one to one relationship with them.

Only program of its kind in the state

Our pediatric urology program is the only one around. The next closest pediatric urology programs are in Minneapolis or Rochester.

Treated conditions

Pediatric urology deals mostly with the following conditions:

• Hydrocele is the swelling of the scrotum or groin area as a result of too much fluid around the testicle/s.
• Hypospadias happens when the opening which releases urine from the body is not in its typical location.
• Incontinence involves difficulty controlling the release of urine.
• Kidney tumors
• Phimosis is when the foreskin cannot be retracted.
• Undescended testicle/s is a condition in which a baby’s testicle/s do not descend from his belly to his scrotum before birth.
• Urinary tract infections
• Vesicoureteral reflux occurs when urine flows into the kidneys from the bladder instead of the other way around.

All of these conditions need to be evaluated clinically by examining the patient. Then lab tests and X-rays are ordered. If lab tests are done by the primary doctor, the parents should bring the X-rays or the workup with them to their appointment with Dr. Koleilat. Otherwise, other testing will be done.
